Tom
Brown began his career at the firm as an associate in 1995
and is now a member of the firm.
Mr. Brown received his B.A. cum laude from Colgate
University in 1988 and his J.D. magna cum laude from
Cornell University in 1995, where he was a member of the law
review and the Order of the Coif. In addition, he was active
in moot court both as a judge and as a participant, winning
the Jessup Memorial Competition at Cornell and representing
the school at a national moot court competition held in New
York. Following law school, he served as a clerk for the Honorable
Max Rosenn of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Brown has practiced actively in complex civil litigation
in state and federal courts and arbitrations and in various
matters in Surrogates Courts. He recently led the trial
team that secured a $12+ million jury verdict for fraud against
a national investment bank after a four week trial. Prior
to that victory, he successfully confirmed a multi-million
dollar Swiss arbitration award in the District of Delaware
and acted as the lead attorney in another successful jury
trial and several arbitrations. He has also acted as second
chair in a complex 27 day bench trial in the Commercial Division
of the Supreme Court of the State of New York for New York
County in which the Court rendered a multi-million verdict
in favor of his clients. He has appeared before the Third
Circuit Court of Appeals and has argued numerous motions before
both state and federal Courts. He has also worked on numerous
cases that his clients have successfully settled prior to
trial.
Mr. Brown is a member of the New York State bar as well as
the bars of the Second and Third Circuits and those of the
U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Northern
Districts of New York. He is a member of the American Bar
Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Association
of the Bar of the City of New York, where he is presently
serving on the Federal Courts Committee, and is the author
of the article: "Forced Abortions and Involuntary
Sterilization in China: Are the Victims of Coercive Population
Control Measures Eligible for Asylum in the United States,"
published in San Diego L.R., 32-3.
